LI(V)E

LI(V)E is an experimental music video project which aims to question whether freedom and self-sovereignty truly exist for individuals within developed societies.

The objective of this sequence was to marry visual symbols and audio structure to best convey the aforementioned theme. With regards to visual symbols, a notable one is the use of the game of chess.  For example, the sequence incorporates a montage with match cuts between pawns and people, followed by kings and large corporations. These shots aim to evoke questions about the power of an individual and what role they truly serve in the game of life. From an audio perspective, the soundtrack amplifies the emancipatory ending. Specifically, it begins with a sparse texture and gradually builds up in density as the sequences reaches the end, which is where emancipation occurs. As such, since the beginning of the sequence represents restriction and a limited worldview, the audio is sparse and texturally weak. However, when emancipation is represented, the audio is rich, and dense, conveying the possibilities of freedom.
