THE LOST TOUCH
The Lost Touch is a poetic documentary which reflects upon the power, purpose and tumultuousness of solitude against the desire for connection.
In this sequence, Jad sought to enhance the meaning of the story through its cinematography. Inspired by the cinematography of Sven Nykvist in the film Persona, he contrasts close and intimate shots with wide and expansive shots to enhance the viewer’s reception of the character’s solitude. He also employs visual metaphor, seen in the cages and fences, to symbolically convey the sense of isolation and confinement associated with solitude. Most notably, he capitalises on reflections towards the ending of the sequence to invite reflexive questioning on whether one is ever truly alone.
